More Information
Carousel for Concert Band was originally written for Chamber Orchestra as the third movement of my Mini-Symphony in 2008. It is inspired by the wonderful calliope and fairground organ waltzes that I heard as a child as well as the great waltzes of Ravel, both of which I maintain a strong affinity for. There is also a little bit of Charles Ives in this work, whose sense of nostalgia in his work, particularly New England nostalgia, seeped into my creating. This Concert Band version was created in 2012.
