Virtual Rehearsal Visits

If an in-person residency is unfeasible, a virtual rehearsal visit might be a better option as it is typically cheaper and easier to arrange thanks to the power of high-speed internet. This can take the form of me visiting your rehearsal live through Zoom or Skype, or alternatively recording a 1-on-1 conversations with you that you can share with your ensemble afterwards.

Virtual Rehearsal with the Consolatio Choir in Medan, Indonesia

What exactly we’d do during this session depends on what you would want. I could:

  • talk about the inspiration and background of the work(s) you are performing

  • listen to you play/sing and provide feedback on your performing

  • take questions about the music, my background, or my creative process

  • offer advice to any students interested in composing and/or a career in music

  • do any other activities or things you might be interested in

I love working with musicians around the country (and across the world!)—in high schools, community groups, and colleges—and I’m always surprised by the insightful questions that they have.

In particular, it can be a great way for young musicians to connect with a living composer, dive deeper into the music they’re performing, and ask questions directly to the composer. It can help them understand that new music is still being composed today and that it is a living and continually evolving art form.
