Midnight Prayer for String Quartet was first written as a song for voice and piano around 2015, and this version for String Quartet was created October and November 2017 and revised in October 2019.  Beginning with a very simple chord progression and melody-and-accompaniment texture that could almost be taken from popular music, I add subtle changes of meter and explore several ways of decorating the melody and harmonies with all kinds of string harmonics and other techniques.  This piece is dedicated to, my wife, Diane. 

Premiered November 21, 2019 by Leo Matsuoka, Hannah Kim-violins, Adrian Jackson-viola, Joella Becker-cello, at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY.
