More Information
My Quintette de Cuivres (meaning “Brass Quintet” in French) was written in a span of about two weeks in May of 2012. It was written for the Quintette de Cuivres (Brass Quintet) for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln 2012 Chamber Music Institute (and the final touches were added on the train ride from Chicago to Lincoln). The piece was then workshopped, revised, and premiered during the week-long institute. The music explores the idea of expansion from a single pitch (the first pitch of the piece) which fans out both upwards and downwards, as well as many different colors and timbres through the use of various brass mutes, for which my orchestrational ear needed some work on identifying.
Premiered June 8, 2012 by Quintette de Cuivres at the Sheldon Museum of Art, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, NE.
